UDISE+ 2021-22 Report

Relevance:

Ministry of Education released Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22 report on school education recently.

Key findings:

  • Student Enrolments:
    • Total students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary stood at 25.57 crore (marginally increased from 2020-21).Total enrolment of Children with Special Needs (CWSN) in 2021-22 showed improvement of 3.45% over 2020-21.
    • Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) has improved in 2021-22.
  • Teacher engagement:
    • More than 51% are female teachers.
  • Enrolment of girls:
    • Gender Parity Index (GPI) value at all level of school education is 1 or more implying more participation of girls in the school education.
  • Number of schools:
    • Total number of schools in 2021-22 declined in comparison to 2020-21 due to closure of private schools and grouping/ clustering of schools by various States.

About UDISE+:

  • An application to collect the school details about factors related to a school and its resources.
  • An updated and improved version of UDISE (Ministry of Education).
  • Developed by – Department of School Education & Literacy in the year 2018-19
  • Aim – To overcome the issues related to erstwhile practice of manual data filling in paper format.
  • Importance –
    • It captures additional data indicators like digital library, number of books available in school library, etc.
    • It measures the education parameters from classes 1 to 12 in government and private schools across India.

Key Definitions:

  • Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) is the number of students enrolled in a given level of education, regardless of age, expressed as a percentage of the official school-age population corresponding to the same level of education.
  • GPI in primary, secondary and tertiary education is the ratio of the number of female students enrolled at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education to the number of male students in each level.
